Deezer signs AI training statement

Deezer has, as the first music streaming platform, signed the Statement on AI training available on https://www.aitrainingstatement.org/:

"The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted."

Alexis Lanternier, CEO, Deezer said: The work of artists and songwriters is the foundation of the music industry, and for Deezer it's essential that creators are paid fairly, and that their works are protected from any misuse. We're proud to be part of the tens of thousands of creators and organizations that oppose unlicensed use of creative works with AI. We will continue to do our part to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters, including developing our new model for streaming remuneration, AI detection and fighting fraud.

Ed Newton-Rex, organizer of the Statement on AI Training, said: "The Statement on AI Training has been signed by more than 30,000 people - mostly by creators themselves, but also by a number of companies that stand with creators and reject the unlicensed training of generative AI on creative works. I'm grateful to Deezer for becoming the first music streaming platform to sign the statement, and I hope other streaming platforms will follow their lead."
