20th Annual Constitution Day Chartwell Lecture

Many political observers claim today that American democracy is at risk, but government in America has been gradually changing for many decades, explains Forrest Nabors, Ph.D. Intensified, partisan polarization and political realignment are some of the effects of those changes. Is our country undergoing a mostly peaceful revolution? In what direction is our government changing? What will be the outcome of our present revolutionary era? This lecture will answer these questions and present a summary analysis of the condition of constitutional government today.

The Chartwell Lecture Series, named after Winston Churchill's country house in Kent, is organized by the Department of Political Science at the UAA and features lectures on a wide range of subjects in the humanities and liberal arts. Staffing is provided by the Dean's Office of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Department of Political Science gratefully acknowledges the co-sponsorship of UAA's Pi Rho Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, and the assistance of the Union League of Anchorage, which made this lecture possible, thanks to support from both the Jack Miller Center for Teaching America's Founding Principles and History, through a grant from the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust, and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. Our students in the William H. Seward Society and the UAA Political Science Association help to organize the lectures.

We are particularly grateful for support from our loyal lecture audience. For information about how to support this year's Chartwell Lecture Series, please contact Professor James W. Muller, [email protected], or any faculty member in the Department of Political Science.
