Accidental discharge of firearm leads to arrest

On October 21, 2024, New York State Police arrested Jacub J. Hemingway, age 21 of Ithaca, NY for the class "D" felony of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree and the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree.

On October 16, 2024, at approximately 4:52 a.m., Troopers from SP Ithaca were dispatched by the Tompkins County 911 Center for a report of a male with an accidental self-inflicted shotgun wound to his toe at a residence on Lake Country Avenue in the town of Dryden. Troopers learned that by the time they responded to the residence, Hemingway had already been transported by a private vehicle to Cortland Guthrie Medical Center for treatment.

An investigation at the residence revealed that Hemingway was in possession of three firearms. Hemingway does not possess a pistol permit. He was additionally found in possession of brass knuckles. Hemingway was processed on October 21 then transported to the Tompkins County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.
