The large pecan tree at Betty Mauldin Park is scheduled for removal on Wednesday, August 7 beginning around 7:30-8:00 a.m., due to significant structural compromise. The Betty Mauldin Park and Jones St. Parking Lot will be blocked off the day of while work is underway. Inspections and assessments confirm the tree's decline and risk. The Tree Preservation Board and Parks, Green Spaces & Trails Commission will discuss future plans for the space, including plans to create an item to commemorate the tree by making something from the wood.
