ARUP Job Seekers Targeted in Ongoing Recruitment Scam

ARUP recruiters have seen a recent increase in reports of recruitment scams that target job seekers. The latest twist involves providing fraudulent onboarding materials, such as tax documents, that seek personal financial information. In at least one case, a recent ARUP hire was targeted, which made the scam seem legitimate.

In these latest incidents, people claiming to be ARUP "HR recruiters" contact job seekers via phone, stating they have been hired for remote administrative work, and promise $20 per hour during training and $40 per hour when training is completed. Then, the bad actors send fraudulent tax forms and other documents.

"Recruitment schemes are an unfortunate reality for today's job seekers, who need to be vigilant with their personal information. ARUP takes every report about recruitment fraud seriously and works diligently to warn potential employees about the tactics bad actors are using," said Tom Topik, ARUP's chief human resources officer.

ARUP strongly advises applicants to review email addresses, social media profiles, website URLs, and forms before taking any action. Legitimate ARUP recruiters initiate communication by phone from 800-522-2787 or 801-583-2787 or by email using only email addresses ending in @aruplab.com.

Recruitment fraud is not new. ARUP received reports about scammers trying to schedule fraudulent job interviews via LinkedIn in December 2023, and warned about phishing emails seeking personal information in February 2023.
