INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Democratic Party would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris, who visited Indianapolis on Wednesday to address the historically Black sorority Zeta Phi Beta at its annual convention, the Grand Boulé. This was among the first stops Harris has made after kicking off her campaign for president.

Since launching her bid for the presidency, Harris has shattered fundraising records and garnered immense enthusiastic support, raising $81 million in the first 24 hours since her campaign went public with 1.1 million individual donors, 62% of them being first-time donations.

This is Harris' third visit to Indianapolis since 2019. In 2022, she came to Indiana while the Republican legislature was passing the country's first abortion ban after the Dobbs decision.

"It has been a privilege to have Kamala Harris in Indiana and watch her garner so much support for her campaign in the last few days," said Indiana Democratic Chair Mike Schmuhl. "With her visit to Indiana today, and her visit after the fall of Roe v. Wade, she is proving a commitment to progress and freedom for Americans in all 50 states."

"Hoosiers have been in need of strong, Democratic leadership that works for them, not the other way around. Hoosiers and Americans are hungry for a new generation of leadership in our state and country, and Democrats are ready to deliver."

Harris' record-shattering windfall should come as no surprise - with Roe v. Wade gone and abortion access limited in its wake, including in Indiana, American women are tired of fighting tooth and nail for the rights to their bodies. In the case of Indiana, women have had to contend with some of the harshest abortion restrictions in the nation. Hoosiers deserve better, and Harris is ready to answer the call.
