TRAFFIC FATALITY - LONG BEACH BOULEVARD AND 45TH STREET

Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a collision that occurred on Sept. 7, 2024 which resulted in the death of a male motorcyclist.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and 45th Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle.

Upon arrival, officers located a male motorcyclist in the roadway and immediately rendered medical aid until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. LBFD personnel transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2021 Honda CR-V was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard towards 45th Street when it merged into the left turn lane to travel eastbound on 45th Street. As the Honda CR-V was turning, a 2003 Yamaha Motorcycle traveling northbound on Long Beach Boulevard in the number one lane, struck the Honda CR-V's right passenger side.

The driver of the Honda CR-V remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending identification by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner and the notification of next of kin.

Speed is being investigated as a factor on the behalf of the motorcyclist. Distracted driving and driving under the influence are not believed to be a factor in this investigation.
