Heard Libraries’ read and publish agreement with Oxford University Press enhances support for Vanderbilt research

A three-year read-and-publish agreement between Oxford University Press and the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries is elevating the visibility and impact of Vanderbilt University research by expanding access to OUP's broad portfolio of academic journals. Under the agreement, which is effective through 2026, Vanderbilt-affiliated authors can publish open access in hundreds of OUP's hybrid journals without incurring article processing charges (APCs).

"This agreement with Oxford University Press furthers Vanderbilt's commitment to information equity and collaborative scholarship," said University Librarian Jon Shaw. "Publishing open access in these journals provides our university's authors with opportunities for expanded readership, enabling them to amplify the impact of their research as they engage with a global community of scholars."

Alison Denby, vice president of journals at OUP, said, "We are delighted to partner with Vanderbilt University to facilitate open access publishing for their research community and provide access to vital high-quality research across a broad range of discipline areas."

The agreement waives the APCs for articles published open access by Vanderbilt corresponding authors in hybrid journals and received into OUP production on or after Jan. 1, 2024. Articles are published under a Creative Commons license. Eligible corresponding authors publishing in participating fully OA journals receive a discount on their APCs.
