Fatal Collision- 26000 block of Gading Rd
HAYWARD, Calif., On Wednesday, 11/20/2024,at approximately 1:33 p.m., officers responded to the report of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in a parking lot near the 26000 block of Gading Road.
Officers arrived and located the driver and pedestrian still on scene.
Duringthe investigation, it was determinedthe pedestrian had a medical emergencyprior to the collision, which caused him to faint in the parking lot. The driver reportedly didnot see the pedestrian and made a turn in the parking lot, striking the pedestrianwho was laying on the ground.
The pedestrian, a 66-year-old male and Hayward resident,was found conscious and breathing and spokewith officers at the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for treatmentwhere his health rapidly declined,and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The driver,a 52-year-old male and Hayward resident, was cooperative and provided a statement regardingthe incident.
The pedestrian'sidentity is known but is being withheld at this time, pending notifications to next of kin and proper identification protocols through the Alameda County Coroner's Office.
Investigative steps are being completed to determinewhether alcohol was a factor in this collision.
