Upcoming eastbound lane closure on Winchester Road in Whitby

Whitby, Ontario - The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of an upcoming lane closure on Winchester Road in the Town of Whitby.

Where: The eastbound lane of Winchester Road will be closed, from Durham Street/Chelmsford Drive to east of Watford Street/Anderson Street, in Whitby.

When: August 6 to December 2024 and April 2025 to September 2025. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.

Why: To safely rehabilitate and widen Winchester Road. This lane closure will help increase safety for road users, pedestrians and work crews, allow for a more efficient flow of traffic, and aims to reduce the construction timeline.

Note: The lane closure will be removed, and the road will be open fully from December 2024 to April 2025. The eastbound lane closure will then begin again from April 2025 until September 2025. Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the construction. Access to business entrances will be maintained whenever possible. The Region realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
