Great report card as pupils and staff shine at Glebe Primary

Posted on 16 May 2023

AN Irvine school has received a glowing report following an inspection from Education Scotland.

The 'outstanding' head-teacher, 'articulate' and 'motivated' young people and 'dedicated' staff were all highlighted in the report for Glebe Primary.

The inspectors visited the school in February where they talked to parents/carers and children and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.

And they were clearly impressed with the brilliant learning environment with inspectors also commenting on the caring ethos of the school.

In every criteria, the school is described as being excellent or very good - the two top performance ratings.

The full findings can be viewed here but some of the highlights from the report include:

  • The school's range of supports is improving attainment and achievement for all children including those who face barriers or challenges in their learning
  • Children feel safe, cared for, listened to and respected by their school community
  • The headteacher and depute headteacher value all children, staff and partners. They remind them regularly that they all have an important role to play in the life and work of the school and wider community
  • Overall, attainment in literacy and numeracy is very good
  • Senior leaders and staff have developed strong partnerships with parents
  • The learning environment is calm and purposeful. Almost all children engage very well in their learning, showing a resilient, 'have a go' attitude

Head teacher Mrs Sanderson said: "This is a fantastic report and we are all delighted to have received such positive feedback from Education Scotland.

"We are very much a team and I have to say a huge thanks to all the teachers and support staff for the work they do every day. They are an amazing group of staff who care deeply about the young people and giving them the best experience possible.

"The pupils are an absolute credit to the school, themselves and their families and it is a privilege to be their head teacher.

"We won't rest on our laurels. Like all inspections, they pick up things we can do better and we will strive to get even better over the coming weeks and months."

Councillor Shaun Macaulay, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "This is an absolutely outstanding report and the head teacher and all the staff deserve an enormous amount of credit. They are doing a brilliant job.

"A huge well done to all the young people who are making the most of the learning environment and thriving. It's great to see and I'm sure Glebe Primary will continue to go from strength to strength."
