Santa Ana Library to host Chicano Heritage Educational Celebration on August 29

SANTA ANA, Calif. - On Thursday, Aug. 29, Santa Ana Public Library will host a Chicano Heritage Educational Celebration of Culture at the Library from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in the Santa Ana City Hall courtyard at 20 Civic Center Plaza.

"We invite everyone in the community to join this educational event as we continue our celebration of Chicano Heritage Month," Mayor Valerie Amezcua said. "Come learn about the significant impacts Chicanos have had on American society, from music and art to film and literature."

Santa Ana was the first city in the country to declare August as Chicano Heritage Month.

The event will feature:

  • A unique Aztec dance performance by Ballet Folklorico Leyenda
  • The participation of Mariachi Folklore directed by Oscar Garibay
  • An insightful panel on Chicano History with Alexandro J. Gradilla, Ph.D. (CSUF) and Professor Angelina Veyna (Santa Ana College)
  • A panel on the History of Chicano Films with Logan Crow (Executive Director and Founder of The Frida Cinema) and Justina Bonilla (writer, The Hollywood Reporter)

Other activities include art and painting activities for adults and children with Los Muralitos Club and La Artista Marina Aguilera; a small resource fair with local organizations; a picture exhibit by the Santa Ana History Room; and various giveaways, including cultural books and treats. Giveaways and activities are available on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last.

Join us for an enriching evening celebrating Chicano culture and history.
