The Department of Streets Announces Schedule For Street Milling For Various Streets Throughout Philadelphia

Philadelphia - Streets Commissioner, Kristin Del Rossi announced today that temporary street closures and parking restrictions to accommodate street paving in the 1^st and 4^th Highway District for the week of October 7, 2024. (Day work)

1^st Highway District

• 46^thStreet from Haverford Avenue to Market Street
• Irving Street from 50^thStreet to 53rd Street
• 48^thStreet from Baltimore Avenue to Larchwood Avenue
• Walton Avenue from 48^thStreet to 49^th Street
• 49^thStreet from Cedar Avenue to Baltimore Avenue
• Catherine Street from Baltimore Avenue to 50^thStreet
• Walton Avenue from 55^thStreet to 59^th Street
• Webster Street from 56^thStreet to 58^th Street
• 62nd Street from Market Street to Catharine Street
• Delancey Street from 61st Street to Cobbs Creek Parkway
• Webster Street from 62nd Street to Cobbs Creek Parkway

4^th Highway District

• Roumfort Road from Crittenden Street to Mansfield Avenue
• Allens Lane from Sprague Street to Crittenden Street
• Sedgwick Street from Ardleigh Street to Stenton Avenue
• Gorgas Lane from Stenton Avenue to Ardleigh Street
• Gorsten Street from Vernon Road to Gorgas Lane
• Milton Street from Vernon Road to Gorgas Lane
• Vernon Road from Stenton Avenue to Ardleigh Street
• Johnson Street from Stenton Avenue to Ardleigh Street

The contractor has confirmed that nighttime milling operations will occur in the 1^st and 4^th Highway. Work will be completed in three separate phases: street milling, the adjustment of manhole covers and resetting of utility boxes, and final paving. These activities will take place in separate construction phases spanning over the course of the next several months. Work for milling the old asphalt is anticipated to occur during the day shift and take approximately five (5) days per corridor. Work for adjusting manhole covers and resetting utility boxes will take place during the day shift and is anticipated to last two (2) to three (3) days per corridor. Lastly, operations for the final paving are anticipated to occur during the day and take approximately three (3) to five (5) day per corridor, weather dependent.

All work will take place during nighttime hours from 7:30AM to 3:30PM. The roadways will remain open with temporary flagging to direct traffic.

To complete the work, residents should expect some parking restrictions. Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted in advance of each scheduled activity. Residents are urged to move their cars from the work sites when temporary "No Parking" signs are posted, so that vehicles are not towed. In the event a car is towed, please contact the local Police District to determine its location. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling around the work areas.

While the Streets Department will make every effort to minimize disruption to traffic, residents are urged to plan and use alternative routes when traveling in these areas. The Streets Department thanks residents in advance for their patience and cooperation as we work to improve City streets.
