DENTON, Texas - Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton has been re-designated as a Maternal Level III facility by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

"It is an honor and privilege to care for mothers and their babies. This recognition from the state reflects the hard work and dedication of our women's team, who work collaboratively with our OB-GYN medical staff physicians to meet the designation requirements," said Jeff Reecer, FACHE, president of Texas Health Denton.

A Level III maternal care facility provides comprehensive care for pregnant women, including programs focused on healthy pregnancies through breastfeeding support, education and noninvasive therapies to prevent unnecessary C-sections, as well as medical and surgical treatments for complex obstetrical conditions. The hospital also offers a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), meaning it provides comprehensive care for infants born at all gestational ages and birth weights, with mild to complex critical conditions or medical problems.

In an effort to reduce morbidity and mortality rates, in 2018, the state implemented the Levels of Care for maternal care programs and NICUs to validate hospitals can provide care that promote healthy outcomes for mothers and babies.

"We're proud of every member of our team. Everyone played a big role in this achievement, which demonstrates our commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive care to every mother in Denton County," said Summer Hughes, M.S.N., R.N., NEA-BC, RNC-OB, C-EFM, director of women and infant services at Texas Health Denton.
