Make Quality Management a Common Practice in Learning and Development Efforts

(Alexandria, VA) June 25, 2024-Quality management is a common practice in the business world that ensures products and services developed and delivered achieve the objectives and standards they are designed for. In Quality Management in Learning and Development (ATD Press, June 2024), L&Dexpert Hadiya Nuriddin makes the case that learning professionals should follow the business world's lead by adopting a quality-first mindset and creating and implementing a quality management (QM) system to ensure that their corporate training and learning programs meet the highest standards of excellence.

Nuriddin asks, "What's at stake?" if organizations lack a strong QM system for their learning programs. Errors and ineffective training programs can cost an organization and its employees time, money, and resources-often negatively affecting the bottom-line of the organization and the future of the learning programs and training budgets. Effective training not only saves an organization time, money, and resources but also can help the organization meet and surpass revenue and other goals.

"For some teams, the risks are minimal, or the systems you're using now are enough. For other teams, they already know that the weight of the risk is enormous. However, the teams with
the most significant challenge are the ones that have no idea what the issues are and what their presence is costing them," states Hadiya. "They are the ones who need to assess what their quality planning, assurance, and control processes are and create a system that will pinpoint problems and uncover what lies beneath the work we do every day."

Nuriddin encourages talent development professionals to go beyond checklists and correcting for typos and look at the bigger picture. She asks L&D professionals to think through quality concerns before, during, and not just after products are developed and delivered, thus shifting from, "Let's fix a problem post-delivery" to "Let's prevent errors from happening in the first place."

This is the first book of its kind to provide practical guidance and advice on quality management for learning and development.
