SAN DIEGO - Mayor Todd Gloria today issued the following statement on the tentative award of a slot at Washington, D.C.'s Reagan Airport (DCA) to Alaska Airlines for a nonstop flight from San Diego:

"Over the past two years, I have worked with our San Diego International Airport leadership, our Congressional delegation and Alaska Airlines to advocate for a direct, nonstop flight to DCA. This tentative announcement shows what's possible when San Diego has a seat at the table in Washington, D.C. With the largest concentration of military assets in the world and the largest national defense workforce in the country, a top-tier biotech and innovation economy - and as the center of binational business with Mexico - this nonstop flight will be a major boon to those doing important business in our nation's capital.

"I'd like to thank Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker, Assistant Secretary for Aviation Annie Petsonk and staff for their careful review in tentatively selecting Alaska Airlines to operate this flight, as well as our Congressional delegation who fought to pass the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization that made today possible. We look forward to the final ruling and the first flight, which will be a great day for San Diego!"
