MWCSP STATEMENT ON THE INCIDENT IN LAUTOKA

An investigation is being conducted by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection in the Western Division, regarding a child identified as a victim of parental conflict.

The incident, which took place in Lautoka over the long weekend and was viral on social media, involved a domestic dispute between a couple whereby the child was placed at risk.

The Ministry is investigating the matter in collaboration with its Inter-Agency Committee, to ensure that the child's welfare is not compromised.

In light of this incident, the Ministry wishes to advise all parents and guardians, that under the Child Welfare Act 2010, any healthcare worker, teacher, Police Officer and professionals mandated under the Inter-Agency Committee to report any possible or likely harm to a child.

The Ministry is also urging parents and guardians to reflect on the profound responsibility you hold in nurturing and safeguarding your children.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any form of abuse through the Child Helpline 1325 or National Domestic Violence Helpline 1560.
