The
Sacramento County Department of Water Resources (DWR) has opened three sandbag locations for residents in unincorporated areas. If you believe your property will be in danger of potential flooding due to heavy rains, get sandbags now before the rain falls. Do you still have sandbags from last winter? Toss them and get newer bags due to the deterioration of your current bags from the summer sun.
DWR opened its regular locations at Branch Center Road, the Orangevale Community Center and Sac Metro Fire Station #116. A new location has been designated at 7000 65th Street and will open if needed. This site is closed but will be utilized if flooding threatens that area.
Open sandbag locations:
-
Branch Center (3847 Branch Center Rd.)
-
Orangevale Community Center (6826 Hazel Ave.)
-
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Station #116 (7995 Elwyn Ave.)
DWR supplies the sand and bags, but residents will need to bring a shovel. There is a 20-bag limit per visit. Residents not living in the unincorporated areas of the County will need to check with their cities for sandbag information. You can visit the
Water Resources website for more information on locations and other flood related topics.
Remember, before the rain falls, you're encouraged to clear storm drains of debris around your property to reduce the chance of street flooding. Once a storm hits, you can monitor rising streams near you and other unincorporated areas with the
County's ALERT system .
