SGMC Health Recognizes Sanders for Service as Chief of Medical Staff

SGMC Health proudly recognizes Jared Sanders, MD, for his exceptional service and leadership as Chief of Staff from January 2023 through December 2024. Dr. Sanders' unwavering dedication to advancing healthcare in the region and his commitment to delivering high-quality patient care have significantly impacted SGMC Health and the communities it serves.

A native of South Georgia, Dr. Sanders graduated from Lee County High School and Georgia Southwestern State University before earning his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and joined the SGMC Health Medical Staff in 2016.

Dr. Sanders has been an influential leader within SGMC Health's Medical Staff since 2021, serving as Chief of Staff Elect from January 2021 through December 2022, and subsequently as Chief of Staff. During his tenure, he has demonstrated a relentless drive to ensure the community has access to the highest level of quality care. His leadership has been instrumental in expanding the trauma program, enhancing clinical service lines, and navigating SGMC Health through multiple natural disasters that affected the region.

"Dr. Sanders' passion for patient care and his commitment to collaboration have elevated the standard of healthcare delivery at SGMC Health," said Hospital Authority Board Chairman Sam Allen. "His collegial approach to leadership and his ability to drive change have made a lasting impact on our patients, staff, and organization as a whole."

Throughout his service, Dr. Sanders has been a strong advocate for teamwork and patient-centered care. He has fostered meaningful collaboration between the Medical Staff, SGMC Health's Executive Team, and the Board of Directors to advance patient care initiatives that prioritize quality, safety, and access for the region.

In addition to his leadership among his physician peers, Dr. Sanders has shown sincere kindness and thoughtful support to non-physician care team members, strengthening the culture of collaboration and compassion at SGMC Health.

The SGMC Health Board of Directors extends its deepest appreciation to Dr. Sanders for his significant accomplishments as Chief of Staff and his continued dedication to the health and well-being of the region. SGMC Health is proud to have Dr. Sanders as a valued member of its clinical team and looks forward to his continued contributions in the years to come.

Elizabeth Flail, DO, will serve as SGMC Health's Chief of Staff beginning January 2025.
