Minister of Foreign Affairs has bilateral discussions with Norwegian and Canadian Foreign Ministers during 57th AMM/PMC in Vientiane

On 25 July 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had 2 bilateral discussions, during the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Post Ministerial Conference (AMM/PMCX in Vientiane, which are (1) with H.E. Mr. Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, on bilateral relations and corporation in areas of mutual interests, including security, economy, trade and investment; and (2) with The Honorable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, where both sides reaffirmed readiness to further enhance the positive momentum in Thailand-Canada relations and cooperation based on shared values and mutual interests.

During the discussion with the Norwegian Foreign Minister, the Minister expressed appreciation to learn that Thai Airways resumed the Bangkok-Oslo flight, which has helped promote people-to-people relations and connectivity between the two countries. Both sides agreed to advance the conclusion of the Thai-EFTA FTA, enhance trade and investment, and promote green energy transition cooperation. Regional issues were also discussed, including the peace process in Myanmar.

During the discussion with the Canadian Foreign Minister, both sides agreed to advance cooperation, especially trade and investment as well as private sector collaboration. The two ministers also discussed ways to enhance cooperation on clean energy transition and people-to-people relations including travel facilitation and educational exchanges. On this occasion, Minister Joly also congratulated Thailand on the passing of the Marriage Equality Act and welcomed Thailand's efforts on the promotion of gender equality.
