Federal Emergency Management Agency Designates 24 South Dakota Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas Due to Severe Storms, Straight-line Winds, and Flooding

This Presidential disaster declaration allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation, or to refinance certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.

Impacted Area: South Dakota

Triggering Disaster: Severe Storms, Straight-line Winds, and Flooding that occurred from June 16, 2024 to July 8, 2024.

Application Deadline: April 15, 2025

Primary Counties Eligible: Aurora, Bennett, Bon Homme, Brule, Charles Mix, Clay, Davison, Douglas, Gregory, Hand, Hanson, Hutchinson, Jackson, Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Sanborn, Tripp, Turner, Union, and Yankton

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible:

Iowa: Lyon, Plymouth, Sioux, and Woodbury

Minnesota: Lincoln, Pipestone, and Rock

Nebraska: Boyd, Cedar, Cherry, Dakota, Dixon, Keya Paha, and Knox

South Dakota: Beadle, Brookings, Buffalo, Faulk, Haakon, Hyde, Jerauld, Jones, Kingsbury, Lyman, Mellette, Oglala Lakota, Pennington, Spink, and Todd
