City of Aurora seeking applications for new public art project: “The Art of Sustainable Water”

The city of Aurora's Art in Public Places Program and Aurora Water are partnering on a new initiative, commissioning a work of public art to raise awareness regarding contemporary issues and solutions around water sustainability. Applications must be submitted by Sunday, Sept. 15.

"The new art installation will be incorporated into Aurora Water's educational programs, reaching thousands of students each year," said Greg Baker, deputy director for Internal and External Relations. "As a leader in innovation in the water industry, Aurora Water hopes to create a more sustainable future for our community and public art can create an accessible and informative space that contributes to this goal."

The installation will be located at Sand Creek Park, a place where man and nature come together to preserve the creek as an oasis on the plains. This partnership is seeking a dynamic public art experience that will inspire thought, provoke discussion and elicit a call for action to raise public awareness about how water is used today and, in the future, while highlighting contemporary thought about water especially within the context of this high plains environment that is experiencing strong population growth.

The artwork may incorporate data, words, history, science, diverse perspectives, and a wide variety of other tools to engage the public. However, this project is not intended to be a water feature. The $200,000 budget includes design, project management, overhead, fabrication, transportation, installation, insurance, and any other costs associated with this project.
