Nampa Celebrates World Town Planning Day and “A Citizen’s Guide to Planning” Project Completion

Friday, November 8 is World Town Planning Day, which recognizes and promotes the role of planners and how effective planning can create healthy and prosperous communities.

In November of 2023, the City of Nampa Planning and Zoning Department, in honor of World Town Planning Day, launched a series called ACitizen's Guide to Planning. Over the past year, monthly videos and magazine content were released highlighting key topics that are vital to the planning profession. These resources were created for the citizens of Nampa to learn more about the purpose of planning and key planning principles.

Several topics, including the foundations of planning, density and affordable housing, public hearings, comprehensive plans and the Local Land Use Planning Act, along with other subjects, were covered. It is the goal of Nampa's Planning and Zoning Department to inform the public on what planning is, the importance of good planning, why the citizens of Nampa should care and how they can get involved in the planning process in meaningful ways. As our city grows, it is important our citizens are part of the planning process and understand the principles of good planning as well as the laws which govern it. We believe ACitizen's Guide to Planning videos, along with the magazine content, have accomplished this, and we are proud to present the completed series.

To commemorate the efforts of the City of Nampa's Planning and Zoning Department and to celebrate World Town Planning Day, Mayor Kling has proclaimed November 8 in the City of Nampa as "World Town Planning Day." The completed videos and magazine content for A Citizen's Guide to Planning can all be found here: https://www.cityofnampa.us/1656/Citizens-Guide-to-Planning.
