Extensive Investigation Leads to Arrests and Firearm Recovery in Dorchester

On Monday, December 2, 2024, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan), the Youth Violence Strike Force, and District B-3 Detectives arrested Lamar Booth, 59, of Hyde Park, and Jamila Smith, 44, of Dorchester, in connection with a firearm-related incident.

The arrests follow a ShotSpotter activation on November 27, 2024, at 97 Woodrow Avenue, Dorchester, where Officers discovered ballistic evidence. Later that night, a gunshot victim with non-life-threatening injuries reported being shot at the same location.

After an extensive investigation, Detectives identified Booth and Smith as suspects, obtaining arrest warrants for both and a search warrant for Smith's residence. Surveillance led to their arrests without incident. A search of Smith's home uncovered a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun with a high-capacity magazine.

Booth faces charges including Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling. Smith is charged with offenses such as Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Accessory After the Fact, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Both are scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
