The modernization of infrastructure, the promotion of environmental sustainability, the strengthening of SMEs and the development of tourism are, along with education and talent retention, fundamental to ensuring balanced and sustainable growth in the Coimbra region, argues the Regional Business Council of Coimbra (CERC) in its recent position on the strategic priorities for the territory, after the meeting held in Vila Nova de Poiares, on August 1st, with the 13 associations representing the 19 companies. Priorities include investments in industrial parks, transport modernization and digital connectivity.
At the meeting, where essential actions were discussed and approved, CERC reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable and balanced development, mobilizing businesspeople, associations and municipalities in order to promote economic and social growth, essential strategic priorities for the transformation of the region of Coimbra.
Modern and sustainable infrastructures: CERC stands firmly behind the need for urgent investments in industrial parks, modernization of transport, logistics and digital connectivity infrastructures. These are fundamental pillars to increase the competitiveness of local companies and attract new investments, facilitating the flow of goods and services in the region.
Environmental commitment: Sustainability is an unavoidable priority. CERC advocates incentives for the adoption of green business practices, including investment in renewable energy such as solar and wind. Regulating the installation of solar panel parks, in order to protect forestry and agricultural areas, is seen as crucial for preserving the environment.
Strengthening SMEs: Recognizing the vital role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the regional economy, CERC advocates financing, training and access to new markets programs. Strengthening SMEs is essential for creating jobs and promoting innovation. It is imperative that public policies include the Trade in Services sector in support from Community Funds.
Promotion of sustainable tourism: The integrated promotion of historical and natural heritage is vital for sustainable economic development. The CERC proposes the development of rural tourism and the enhancement of historical sites, in addition to the creation of tourist routes connecting the 19 municipalities, providing a complete experience for visitors and promoting the local economy.
Education and talent retention: Education and ongoing training are essential for talent retention in the region. The CERC highlights the importance of creating quality employment opportunities and fostering partnerships between universities and companies, ensuring a qualified and innovative workforce. Initiatives such as "CoimbraITEC" are fundamental in this context.
Cooperation and unity: The union of businesspeople from the Coimbra Region, evidenced at this meeting, demonstrates that cooperation between sectors is essential for sustainable progress. CERC is committed to continuing to work together with business associations, companies and municipalities, to achieve these priorities and inspire other regions to follow this development model.
CERC reaffirms its position as a leader in promoting a prosperous and sustainable future for the Coimbra Region, with a clear vision and defined strategies for the benefit of the entire community.
