National Preparedness Month: Start a Conversation

September is National Preparedness Month, established to create an awareness for the importance of emergency preparedness. Emergencies are unannounced and can happen at any time.

Often, you'll find yourself being the first responder in your home, community, or business until help can arrive.

This year's theme from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is "Start a Conversation". Talking about emergencies and disasters can be difficult to discuss. But it's important.

Our READYPhiladelphia preparedness program can help you!

Here's how!

READYHome Workshop

READYHome is our one-hour workshop offering easy-to-follow tips on creating an emergency plan for households, including considerations for family members with disabilities, pets, and sheltering in place.

We aim to ensure that every household is prepared for emergencies, helping to protect loved ones, and minimize risks during unexpected events.

Participants gain practical knowledge on emergency planning, receive information about local hazards, and get connected to READYPhiladelphia, the city's free emergency text and email alert system.

READYBusiness Workshop

READYBusiness is a one-and-a-half-hour program that guides businesses and non-profits in developing a Business Continuity Plan to maintain operations during and after emergencies.

This helps equip businesses with the tools and knowledge to survive and recover from disasters, while safeguarding employees, assets, and their bottom line.

Participants learn about local hazards, effective emergency response actions, and how to communicate and implement business continuity plans, ultimately enhancing a business's resilience.
