Hoover’s Center for Revitalizing American Institutions Launches Groundbreaking New Webinar Series

Hoover Institution (Stanford, CA) - The Hoover Institution's Center for Revitalizing American Institutions (RAI) is preparing a new webinar series in October, Reimagining American Institutions, featuring speakers with a range of expertise in government, civic organizations, and related fields of academia tackling the root causes of falling trust in the institutions that are pillars of the nation's democracy.

In a first webinar scheduled for October 9, 2024, former White House deputy chief of staff Chris Liddell will speak with Brandice Canes-Wrone, Maurice R. Greenberg Senior Fellow and RAI director, about the significance of the presidential transition period.

Liddell has been part of three presidential transitions and will discuss ways to improve how the White House functions and how to help rebuild the public's trust in the presidency.

In the second webinar, scheduled for October 24, two former national security advisors who served in the role back-to-back in the Bush White House, Hoover Institution director Condoleezza Rice and Stephen Hadley, will explore the national security implications of a presidential transition, including how to ensure the United States is able to confront threats posed by China, Russia, the Middle East, terrorism, proliferation, cybersecurity, pandemics, and climate change.

The third session scheduled for November 12 is entitled Polling: What Is on the Minds of Americans and will feature David Brady, Doug Rivers, Daron Shaw, Lynn Vavreck, and Brandice Canes-Wrone discussing what is in the hearts and on the minds of American voters heading into the November 2024 election. Guiding the discussion is a major national panel survey that the Hoover Institution and YouGov launched in December 2023. This panel poll will generate insights into what is on the minds of Americans as they head to the voting booth and will also demonstrate that even the best crafted poll cannot discern everything voters are considering.

Other webinars will deal with topics including public trust in elections and the media, diversity of viewpoints from the student perspective, and the military, featuring Fouad and Michelle Ajami Senior Fellow H.R. McMaster.

Established in 2022, RAI aims to research the causes of American's declining trust in its core institutions, generate recommendations for restoring them and improving their efficacy, and educate Americans at large about the value and importance of their institutions.
