ECU welcomes new faculty to campus

ADA, Okla. - East Central University proudly announces its new faculty members for the 2024-25 academic year. Fall 2024 semester classes began on Monday, Aug. 19.

New faculty for the fall 2024 semester includes:

Narciso Arguelles; Assistant Professor

Art + Design : Media + Communication

Arguelles received his Master of Fine Arts, in Studio Art, from the University of California, Irvine. He holds a variety of experience at many different levels, having previously worked with the San Diego Museum of Art, the Art Center College of Design, the Oklahoma Latino Cultural Center, the Latino Cultural Committee for the Firehouse Art Center in Norman, Okla. and more. Arguelles also showcases an extensive list of curated and organized exhibitions, art residencies, lectures, artist fellowship, awards and other accolades.

Riley Bailey; Instructor

Department of Kinesiology

Bailey received his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Oklahoma Christian University and his Master of Education in Secondary Education from ECU. He has served as an Instructor of Kinesiology at Lambuth University and Angelo State University, as well as time previously spent as an Adjunct Instructor and Instructor of Kinesiology. Bailey also brings years of experience as assistant soccer coach and head soccer coach to the role, including recent years dedicated to the ECU soccer team as their head coach.

Dr. Jeaneen Canfield; Assistant Professor

Department of English and Languages

Canfield holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Cameron University. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in English with a focus on Rhetoric and Writing Studies from Oklahoma State University. Canfield holds a career of dedicated teaching and experience from the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University where she has taught Technical Writing, History of Rhetoric Since 1700, Young Adult Literature, Genres of Writing in the Environmental Sciences and more. She also brings a wealth of publication, project and administrative experience to ECU. Her research interests include multimodal composition, digital literacies, AI in composition pedagogy, and exploring ways cartographic techniques can be merged into composition pedagogy.

Dr. Ahmed Chaudhry; Assistant Professor

School of Business

Chaudhry received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from Government College University in Lahore, Pakistan and his Master of Philosophy in Applied Economics from Forman Christian College University, also in Lahore, Pakistan. He would go on to receive his Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Oklahoma (OU). Chaudhry brings teaching experience from OU, peer-reviewed publications and experience in the fields of political economy, development economics and policy analysis.

Dr. Cristen Clayton; Assistant Professor

Department of Criminal Justice

Clayton holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from ECU. He also holds a Master of Arts in Leadership: Business from Mid-America, a Doctor of Forensic Science from Oklahoma State University and a graduate certificate in Forensic Psychology from Oklahoma State University, along with numerous other academic accolades. Clayton has served as a Forensic Interviewer, Explosive Operator, Project Manager/Logistics Manager Bomb Production and several other jobs in his chosen field. Most recently, he has served in multiple roles, including but not limited to, Research and Development Demil Project Manager and adjunct professor at ECU.

Dr. Elisabeth Davis; Assistant Professor

Department of History

Davis received her Bachelors in History from Shippensburg University. She went on to earn a Masters in History with a graduate certificate in Women's Studies from Temple University, a Masters in Information and Library science from the University at Buffalo, and a Doctorate in History from the University at Buffalo. Davis has extensively published in her fields. Her research currently focuses on Catholics at the Native American boarding and day schools. Her first book is due out in late 2024. She is currently working on her second book, which examines the role of Catholic women at the Native American schools in Oklahoma.

Dr. Christopher Graham; Assistant Professor

Department of Professional Programs and Human Services

Graham received his bachelor's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University before going on to earn his master's degree from Louisiana State University and his doctorate from Tulane University. Graham's wealth of experience includes service with Spectrum Rehab Services, the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Owner Operator of Full Harvest Counseling and time as a Tulane University research assistant and teaching fellow. Graham brings 15-years of experience to his new role at ECU.

Dr. Diana Goodwin; Director of Early Childhood/Assistant Professor

Department of Education

Goodwin received her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Northeastern State University before going on to earn her master's degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University and her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of New England. She has taught in several school districts in Oklahoma including Muskogee, Eufaula, Canadian, Krebs, and Tulsa as well as in Waianae, Hawaii. During her career, she has served as both an elementary and middle school assistant principal, curriculum coordinator, education specialist, mentor/coach, and grant writer. Goodwin is a National Board-Certified teacher in Early Childhood, holds various other certifications in her field, and has achieved several awards including Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Sandy Harrell; Assistant Professor

Department of Education

Harrell received her bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from ECU before going on to earn her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and her doctorate of education in Administration and Leadership from Southern Nazarene University. She has worked for St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School, Lexington Public Schools and Linsday Public Schools, teaching a number of subjects including math, physical science, US history, physical education, and special education. Harrell has been named Teacher of the Year in previous years and brings a career of quality, first-hand experience to her role at ECU.

Clinton Wright; Assistant Professor

Art + Design : Media + Communication

Wright received his Bachelor of Art in Interdisciplinary Studies from Chadron State College and his Master of Fine Arts in Media Design from Full Sail University. Wright has a long-term history working in the arts, both in and out of higher education. He has served as Master Carpenter, Technical Director, Managing Director and other roles during his career in productionwork. In higher education, he has served as interim staff Technical Director for Chadron State College Theatre, Technical Director for Longwood University Theatre Program, Production Specialist for Longwood University Audio Visual Services and Broadcast Studio Managing Engineer for Longwood University Communication Studies. Each position held a wide variety of responsibilities and experience that Wright now brings to ECU.

Haley Fowler; Instructor

School of Nursing

Fowler received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from ECU and is currently working towards her Master of Science in Nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner program through Mayville University. She is a Registered Nurse in the state of Oklahoma who possesses hands-on experience in her field from St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Okla.; Sooner Home Health of Ada, Okla.; and Traditions Home Health, also of Ada.

Peyton Spencer; Instructor

School of Nursing

Spencer received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from ECU and is certified as a Registered Nurse. She holds experience in a variety of positions, including pediatrics, women's health, and peri-operative care as a staff and charge RNwith Norman Regional Hospital, among other positions. She holds a number of certifications and first-hand skills to her role at ECU.

Allison Crutchfield; Collection Services Librarian

Linscheid Library

Crutchfield received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) and her Master of Science in Information and Library Science from the University at Buffalo. Beyond her education, Crutchfield has served as a Success and Retention Coach for USAO as well as a Library Assistant for Chickasha Public Library. She is also a member of the Oklahoma Library Association. These positions and experiences provided Crutchfield with firsthand experience that has prepared her for engaging with students and faculty, as well as enhancing her library knowledge."

Haley Monroe; Technical Services Librarian

Linscheid Library

Monroe received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from ECU and her Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of Oklahoma. After obtaining her degree from ECU, Monroe has dedicated her career to the university, initially serving as a Public Service Assistant before going on to fill the role of Digital Services Librarian.

Dr. Ying-Chih Sun; Assistant Professor

School of Business

Sun received his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Trade from Tamkang University. He would then go on to receive his Master of Science in Economics from the University at Buffalo, following his service as a research associate at the Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica, and as a logistical lieutenant at Tri-Services General Hospital in Taiwan. He then continued on and earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Information Systems Engineering and Management from Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. With extensive teaching and research experience in healthcare management, business analytics, and information technology management, Sun brings a wealth of experience from inside and outside of higher education to his position at ECU, along with a significant list of honors, awards and achievements.

Ellen Sweatt; Instructor

Department of Education

Sweatt received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and her master's degree in Education with a concentration in Reading from ECU. She served nine years as an elementary teacher for the Ada school system, followed by years of service with the Byng Public School district and The Zone in Ada, Okla. Sweatt brings first-hand experience from her professional background in Education to her position at ECU.
