Crews to take a break for the holiday weekend

To minimize delays and celebrate the holiday, Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) crews will take a break for Independence Day.

Drivers can expect usual traffic on July 3, with a slight, additional delay up 10 minutes in areas such as:

  • Northbound I-15 in Davis County
  • North and southbound I-15 in Salt Lake County
  • Southbound I-15 in Nephi Area

Across the state, most UDOT projects will suspend construction and open all lanes to traffic to help reduce delays over the holiday weekend. In some work zones, these restrictions will continue through the weekend where needed to ensure safety or accommodate ongoing construction.

One area where drivers should expect restrictions is on US-6 starting the night of Sunday, July 7. Drivers should expect one lane of alternating traffic at the bridge at milepost 205.9 between Tucker and Soldier Summit while crews prepare for paving activities. This nightly restriction will continue for the entire week

Utah's national and state parks and outdoor recreation areas experience heavier-than-normal visitation on summer holiday weekends. Travelers should plan ahead for delays and heavier traffic on roads near these attractions, especially U.S. 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon, U.S. 191 near Moab, and S.R. 9 near Zion.

UDOT reminds drivers to be cautious behind the wheel and do their part in making travel safer for everybody by staying alert, using seat belts, putting away distractions, and taking breaks to avoid drowsy driving.

Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. For the latest information on traffic restrictions during construction, visit the UDOT Traffic website or download the UDOT Traffic app for iPhone or Android. Drivers can also follow UDOT on social media including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
