NV Energy Emergency De-energization to Remain in Effect for Safety Due to Red Flag Warning

Customers should prepare for ongoing outage for public safety

Aug 12, 2024 1:59 PM

Due to the active Gold Ranch Fire, NV Energy enacted its emergency de-energization policy and de-energized power lines on Sunday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m. to keep first responders safe and to prevent secondary ignitions caused by our equipment.

Currently about 6,300 customers remain without power. Due to a red flag warning and continued active fire behavior, customers will not be re-energized today to ensure safety of our customers and first responders.

Customers who are currently without power should prepare to remain de-energized for the next 24 hours. All northern Nevada customers, especially those in West Reno, Verdi and surrounding the Gold Ranch Fire should prepare for additional outages.

NV Energy is actively monitoring the fire and weather conditions to determine when it is safe to restore power to all customers. NV Energy is proud to have one of the top power reliability rankings in the nation. However, safety is our number one priority. This emergency de-energization is protecting first responders and the communities they serve.

Due to the urgent nature of emergency de-energization, advance notice may not always be possible. NV Energy ensures timely notifications through customers' preferred communications methods. NVenergy.com provides outage maps and real time updates on emergency de-energization through the AlwaysOn blog.

NV Energy encourages customers to stay prepared for potential outages during fire season by updating their contact details in MyAccount, opting in for alerts and having an emergency plan and kit ready for such events. The company encourages customers to review NV Energy's outage preparation tips so they are prepared ahead of any future outages. Through NV Energy's outage center, customers can stay up to date on the number of outages, outage causes, number of customers impacted and estimated time of restoration.
