ICANN Leads Critical Discussions at 2024 Internet Governance Forum

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is pleased to announce its participation in the 2024 Internet Governance Forum (IGF), taking place from 15 to 19 December 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The IGF is a global platform where stakeholders come together to shape the future of the Internet. This year's theme, "Building Our Multistakeholder Digital Future," highlights the importance of collaboration in ensuring the Internet is inclusive, accessible, and secure for all. In an era of rapid technological change, IGF 2024 presents a unique opportunity to influence the policies that will govern the Internet's future.

The ICANN delegation will be led by incoming ICANN President and CEO Kurtis Lindqvist, who will assume the role that same month, alongside ICANN Board Chair Tripti Sinha. ICANN will contribute to IGF 2024 through sessions and discussions on topics central to its mission, including Domain Name System (DNS) security, Universal Acceptance (UA), and the expansion of the DNS through the New Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) Program. ICANN is leading five sessions that address topics such as digital inclusivity, the multistakeholder model of Internet governance, and the importance of keeping the Internet safe, secure, and interoperable. These sessions will explore how open standards, domain names, and multilingualism can strengthen the global digital ecosystem.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address - a name or a number - into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
