We did it again! S’edav Va’aki Museum Reaccreditation Announced

It is the S'edav Va'aki Museum's pleasure to announce that the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) has awarded our institution with reaccreditation. Since 1971, accreditation has served as a mark of distinction highlighting dedication to meeting museum industry standards and professional practices. The Accreditation Program ensures the integrity and accessibility of museum collections, reinforces the educational and public service roles of museums, and promotes good governance practices and ethical behavior.

As an achievement, accreditation verifies a museum's credibility, quality, and value to funders, policy makers, insurers, community and peers. The Core Standards for Museums and two important questions generally guide every accreditation review:

• How well does the museum achieve its stated mission and goals?

• How well does the museum's performance meet standards and best practices as they are generally understood in the museum field as appropriate to its circumstances?

The process began with a self-study in which museum staff provided information about and answered questions regarding every area within the museum including finances, administration, facility maintenance, archives, artifact collections, exhibits, interpretation, and guest services. Once this detailed self-study was completed, two AAM representatives scheduled an in-person peer-review visit in April to further discuss the information submitted. Following the peer-review, the Accreditation Commission evaluates all the gathered information and then makes the decision to grant a museum with accreditation.

The S'edav Va'aki Museum is honored to receive the field's gold standard for museum excellence and be a part of the 1,112 accredited museums out of the nation's estimated 33,000 institutions.
