The City of Flint Police Department is highlighting an ordinance enforcement initiative to maintain the peace in neighborhoods as part of Mayor Neeley's Safe and Clean Summer initiative.

Flint Police Chief Terence Green says the Police Department's goals are to avoid a major incident, improve public safety, and give Flint residents a sense of peace. Flint Police are ticketing, arresting, and impounding-using all available enforcement tools provided by City of Flint ordinances.

Flint Police are paying particular attention to large gatherings that are impacting neighborhoods. Chief Green says Flint residents should be able to sleep at night without loud music and disturbances caused by house parties continuing into the early morning hours. Large gatherings have even caused traffic issues with illegally parked cars blocking neighbors in driveways and making streets impassable.

"We're going to target those individuals that are constant violators of these ordinances," Chief Green said. "There are specific locations that neighbors have consistently complained about and they're having these types of parties on a weekly basis, specifically on the weekends."

Chief Green is reminding residents that city-owned parks close at 9 p.m. Pop-up parties after dark are illegal, and the Flint Police Department is enforcing this ordinance to maintain the peace in neighborhoods.

The Flint Police Department is also addressing illegal entertainment venues. Chief Green emphasized that these locations attract very large crowds and violence.

Illegal entertainment venues have been popping up in recently vacant commercial buildings that previously housed another type of business. Someone acquires one of these buildings and decides to use it as an entertainment venue, but they don't have the proper licensing. These illegal operations are not licensed to serve alcohol and may not have valid permits to occupy the building, so there are safety hazards if it is not up to code.
