NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for August 25-August 31, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of August 25-31, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On August 25, NOPD Seventh District officers arrested Cedrick Marshall (black male, DOB: 12-16-1970) in the investigation of an incident that day when a vehicle crashed into a home at the intersection of Cerise Avenue and Chef Menteur Highway. A teenaged juvenile victim inside the home was injured in the incident. Marshall was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and, upon discharge, was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for first-degree vehicular negligent injuring and for reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 334 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 42-percent decrease compared to 572 arrests made during the same period in 2023.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of August 27, the NOPD in 2024 had seized 1,565 firearms in criminal investigations, a 19-percent decrease compared to 1,940 such seizures made during the same period in 2023.
