Fatal DUI-Related Collision Overnight

A suspected DUI driver has been arrested following a fatal collision involving multiple vehicles and injuries overnight. Shortly after 2:00 A.M. this morning, officers responded to the intersection of Fowler/Gettysburg as several 9-1-1 calls and cell phone alerts came into our communications center. Officers arrived on scene and noticed that 5 vehicles had been involved, with multiple drivers and passengers.

Due to the extensive collision, our Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was called out to investigate the circumstances while the roadway was closed temporarily. So far, the investigation shows that a driver, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, was traveling westbound on Gettysburg in a Hyundai car, approaching Fowler at a high rate of speed. Another Hyundai car was southbound on Fowler and entered the intersection at Gettysburg on a green signal light. The suspected DUI driver ran the red light and collided with the other car in the intersection. The force of the collision caused the 2 cars to spin out and hit 3 vehicles parked in 2 private driveways of homes nearby. The suspected DUI driver, 2 of his passengers, and both occupants in the other vehicle, all sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals after medical aid was provided on scene. Unfortunately, an adult female in the front passenger seat of the victim's car succumbed to her injuries and passed away, and the victim driver remains in critical condition at the hospital. At this time, the name of the deceased passenger is not being released.

The suspect driver has been identified as 19-year-old Fnu Himanshu of Clovis. After he is treated for his injuries at the hospital, Himanshu will be booked into Fresno County Jail for multiple felony charges related to this fatal DUI collision.
