City Council ratified the local detailed plan for Vantaa Energy Ltd's power-to-gas plant

Vantaa City Council's meeting on October 9 began with a moment's silence in remembrance of the fatalities in Hakunila's tenement fire. Five people died in the fire: the mother and four under-10-year-old children. The City Executive Board, as well, had a moment's silence in honor of the fatalities in its own meeting.
The city council ratified the alteration to the local detailed plan for Vantaa Energy's synthetic-gas producing power-to-gas plant in Hakunila major region, in the neighborhood of Vantaa Energy's waste-to-energy plant. Pitkäsuontie 13 is a protected green area, and parts of Pitkäsuontie street area will be turned into a district of industrial and storage buildings where a significant plant producing or storing dangerous chemicals can be situated.
The city council also decided that, as of the beginning of 2025, the City of Vantaa will independently arrange employment services and ratified the draft for arranging employment services. The responsibility for arranging TE services will transfer to municipalities on January 1, 2025.
In addition, the meeting ratified the alteration to the local detailed plan related to building Vantaa light rail in Pakkala and Veromies districts where parts of the districts will be turned into street areas.
The city council also discussed an initiative-submitted by two city councilors-regarding council meetings and ice rinks.
