Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) announced that she had been selected as the new Democratic Co-Chair of the Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD):
"Italian Americans are an integral part of our nation's diverse cultural makeup. Growing up in Wooster Square-the heart of New Haven's Italian American community-I learned the value of hard work, faith, family, responsibility, and community. These values were present everywhere in our neighborhood, from the religious societies to our own kitchen table.
"I am grateful for my colleagues in the Italian American Congressional Delegation for putting their trust in me to lead our community in Congress.
"I must also the recognize the leadership of my dear friend Bill Pascrell, our former Democratic Co-Chair, who was such a champion for our community in Congress. I hope to honor his legacy by continuing to work on issues that affect our community while promoting and celebrating our proud history as Italian Americans."
The IACD is a bicameral, bipartisan caucus committed to upholding and supporting the relationship between the United States and Italy. The IACD is composed of nearly 200 Members of Congress, many of which can trace their ancestry to Italy.
U.S. Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) and Michael Rulli (R-OH-06) will serve as bipartisan Co-Chairs of the delegation, with U.S. Representatives Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19) and Andrew Garbarino (R-NY-02) serving as Co-Vice Chairs.
