CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 12, 2024) - The Charlotte County Community Development Department is warning residents about a recent surge in spam emails impersonating county staff members. These fraudulent emails appear to come from addresses that closely resemble those of legitimate county staff, and they often request sensitive information or direct recipients to click on suspicious links. Please note that the Community Development Department will never ask for personal or financial information via email.

To protect yourself from these scams:

  1. Verify Email Addresses: Check the sender's email address carefully. Official county emails will come from @CharlotteCountyFL.gov domains.
  2. Do Not Click Links: Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown or unsolicited emails.
  3. Report Suspicious Emails: If you suspect an email may be fraudulent, do not respond or engage with it. Instead, call the Community Development Department at 941-743-1201 to verify the legitimacy of the message.

We urge all residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to help protect our community from these deceptive practices.
