Man charged over alleged stabbing of police officer - Doonside

A man has been charged over the alleged stabbing of a police officer at Doonside early this morning.

Officers attached North West Metropolitan Region Operational Support Group (OSG) attended Hill End Road, Doonside, about 12.30am today (Friday 22 November 2024), responding to reports five men were fighting.

Police will allege four men left the scene in a hatchback, with a fifth man allegedly leaving on foot.

A pursuit was initiated by OSG, with assistance of officers from Blacktown and Mt Druitt police area commands, PolAir and North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad (RES).

A short time later, the pursuit was terminated on Power Street when the car hit a pole and four men allegedly ran away.

Police were patrolling Kilto Road, Doonside, when they saw a 20-year-old man who was on foot. Police will allege during the arrest of that man, a 34-year-old male constable was stabbed in the chest.

That man was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station where he has been charged with five offences,

• Wound police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm

• Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm

• Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention

• Custody of knife in public place - subsequent offence, and

• Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.

He has been refused bail to appear in Blacktown Local Court today.

Two men, aged 18 and 21, remain in custody at Blacktown Police Station, while inquiries are continuing to identify a further two men.

The officer was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition. He will undergo further testing today.
