Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Sison’s Travel to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Chile

Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Michele Sison will travel to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Chile August 21-27, 2024, for meetings with senior officials, including Salvadoran Vice President Felix Ulloa and Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill, Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez, and Chilean Foreign Ministry Secretary General Rodrigo Olsen, as well as UN officials, to reinforce the U.S. commitment to collaborating on common global challenges.

In Santiago, Assistant Secretary Sison will meet with the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Executive Secretary José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, where she will underscore the U.S. commitment to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.

Throughout her travel, Assistant Secretary Sison will discuss areas of shared multilateral interest, including the upcoming UN General Assembly High-Level Week, Summit of the Future, peacekeeping, working together to address conflict and crises, supporting humanitarian needs, and creating a more inclusive international system. Discussions will also focus on transnational challenges, including food insecurity and climate change.
