Provost Committee for Staff Awards celebrate outstanding UNM employees

The 2024 Provost Committee for Staff Awards ceremony was held Sept. 26 at the University Club to recognize fall 2023 and spring 2024 recipients of various awards.

James Holloway, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at UNM, gave welcoming remarks, and the awards were presented by the co-chairs of the Provost Committee for Staff, Jennifer George and Leah Hardesty.

The following winners of the fall 2023 and spring 2024 awards were recognized:

  • 2024 Outstanding Staff Awards: Annie Strohl, coordinator of student admissions in Anderson School of Management; and Cami Hartman, student resource navigator in the Office of Student Affairs, UNM-Taos.
  • Spring 2024 Kindness Awards: Shalaine Castillo, educational specialist, UNM-Valencia; Pam Greathouse, residence life and student housing facilities; Alexander Houston, College of Fine Arts - Department of Theatre and Dance; and Amanda Munk, College of Arts and Sciences - Department of Chemistry.
  • Spring 2024 Academic Support Scholarship: Lorrey Romero, UNM-Valencia PASOS Title V grant; Donovan Chee, UNM-Gallup TRIO student support services; Sarah Blake, UNM Sustainability Studies Program in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences; and Cynthia Killough, UNM Clinical and Translational Science Center.
  • Outstanding Workgroup Award: Anderson School of Management graduate advisors (Beverly Bracker, Keila Gutierrez, Maria Hazel Mendoza Jayme, Allicia Moya and Matthew Vallejos).
  • Fall 2023 Academic Support Scholarship: Rebecca Bacca, UNM Cancer Center; Cristian Duran, College of Pharmacy; Sarah Shrum, UNM Community Health Infections Program; and Grace Faustino, Office of the Vice President for Research.
  • Fall 2023 Kindness Award: Joseph Lane, University Libraries, and Alisa Sadilek, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.

About the Provost Committee for Staff Awards
The Provost Committee for Staff was founded in 1989 to assist the provost in providing opportunities for staff development, recognition and service. The group selects recipients for the following awards:

  • Outstanding Staff Awards recognize outstanding individual staff members who have provided extraordinary service.
  • Outstanding Workgroup Award winners demonstrate extraordinary achievement providing extraordinary service to UNM or the community; demonstrating service to others through exceptional kindness and compassion; and exemplifying UNM values, contributing substantially to significant team or department accomplishments.
  • The Kindness Award recognizes staff members who have demonstrated extraordinary kindness through service.
  • The Provost Committee for Staff scholarships are for UNM employees who are currently pursuing a degree or professional certificate as well as professional development classes. The scholarship can be used to help cover the cost of academic books, course fees and other related course supplies.
