Council's leaders call for an end to racism and division

"In the wake of the riots that have blighted the nation, our hearts are filled with horror and anger at the intolerable acts of racism and hatred that have unfolded. These acts of violence and intolerance are a stark reminder of the work we still need to do to eradicate bigotry from our society. We are grateful to the police officers and other emergency services, including those from North Somerset, who have supported communities in dealing with these challenges.

"North Somerset has always been, and will continue to be, a place that celebrates and welcomes ethnic and cultural diversity. We take pride in our community's rich tapestry, woven from the threads of many different cultures, traditions, and histories. It is this diversity that makes us stronger, more resilient, and more vibrant.

"To those who spread hate and division, let it be known that there is no place for you in North Somerset. We stand united against all forms of racism and bigotry. Our community thrives on mutual respect, understanding, and inclusivity. We will never allow the actions of a hateful few to undermine the values that bind us together.

"Everyone is welcome here, but we don't welcome racist or bigoted views.We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all our residents, where everyone can live without fear of discrimination or violence.

"In these challenging times, let us reaffirm our commitment to stand together against hate. Let us support each other and continue to build a community where every individual, regardless of their background, can feel valued and respected. Together, we can ensure that North Somerset remains a beacon of hope, tolerance, and unity."
