Ranking Member Scott Statement on July Jobs Report

WASHINGTON - Ranking Member Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statisticsannounced that the economy added 114,000 jobs in July, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.3 from 4.1 percent. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, the economy has added 15.8 million jobs.

"In the past four years, Congressional Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration have worked together to prioritize workers and their families and rebuild the economy from the bottom up and the middle out. Today's job report provides further evidence that these policies have paid off. Since taking office, the Biden-Harris Administration has added 15.8 million jobs to the economy while fighting tirelessly to strengthen workforce protections and support workers' rights.

"Unfortunately, hard-working Americans are still taken advantage of by unscrupulous employers flouting labor laws without any meaningful consequences. That is why last week I introduced the Labor Enforcement to Securely (LET'S) Protect Workers Act to crack down on bad actors by responsibly raising civil monetary penalties and level the playing field between employers and employees. The LET'S Protect Workers Actcompliments the already impressive track record of the Biden-Harris Administration to uplift workers' and their families.

"In a sharp contrast, the Republicans' Project 2025 plan aims to erode or outright remove worker protections, destroy unions, and prioritize big corporations over the working class. I reject Republicans' proposal, and I am committed to working with the Biden-Harris Administration and my colleagues in Congress to safeguard workers and sustainably grow the economy."
