Somers, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside, led by the Center for Adult and Returning Students (CARS) and supported by the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is pleased to host Nontraditional Student Week Nov. 4-8 in recognition and appreciation of UW-Parkside's diverse adult and nontraditional student population.

The Nontraditional Student Week events will begin on Monday, Nov. 4, with a Coffee with CARS meet-and-greet on the Student Center Bridge from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Students can pick up an agenda for the week and a 20% off coupon for the University Bookstore. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to help celebrate nontraditional students and to learn how CARS can support their goals at UW-Parkside.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the events continue with a virtual nontraditional student-focused Trivia Tuesday, sponsored by Student Engagement and Connections, at 5:30 p.m. Students and their families are invited to participate in this virtual session by registering through the Student Engagement and Connections Instagram (@uwpcampusactivities) bio. A Zoom link will be sent prior to the event.

The events of Nontraditional Student Week conclude on Thursday, Nov. 7, with UW-Parkside's volleyball game vs. Purdue Northwest in De Simone Arena at 6 p.m. Post-traditional students and prospective students are welcome to bring their families to see the campus and #DefendTheDen. Prospective students and guests who register beforehand will also receive free admission to the game. Current students can receive free admission to the volleyball game with a UW-Parkside student ID.

Prospective students can check in at 5 p.m. for an optional campus tour. Kids can enjoy a bouncy house, coloring contest, and gaming with UW-Parkside's gaming club, while adults meet with representatives from across the university. Concessions will offer a family 4-pack bundle of hot dogs, chips, and a non-alcoholic drink. Attendees can enter to win a Parkside gear giveaway. Prospective students must register beforehand at https://your.uwp.edu/register/ntwsnov2024.

CARS serves adult students and prospective students ages 25 and over, a demographic that comprises 18% of the UW-Parkside undergraduate student population, as well as nontraditional and post-traditional students. CARS also serves as a resource for faculty and staff in implementing best practices for working with post-traditional students. The EOC is a grant-funded resource supporting any adult student in the pursuit of post-secondary education.

Currently, 25% of UW-Parkside students are part-time students. Many UW-Parkside students also work, with 88% of Parkside seniors working an average of 21 hours per week and 64% of first-year students working an average of 13 hours per week (2023).
