Michelle Reynaert announced as MFB’s new chief operating officer

In a June 28 memo to members, leader and staff across the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies, President Carl Bednarski announced the appointment of Michelle Reynaert as the organization's new Chief Operating Officer, effective July 29.

In her new role, Reynaert will leverage extensive operational leadership experience built over a 16-year career at Sparrow Health System, a not-for-profit healthcare network consisting of six hospitals, more than 130 sites of care, with more than 8,000 caregivers and more than 2,000 volunteers serving across mid-Michigan.

Reynaert most recently served as Sparrow's vice president of community engagement, leading the largest comprehensive fundraising campaign in the organization's history. She previously served in leadership roles at the Capital Area Humane Society, Gilda's Club Grand Rapids, and the Capital Area United Way.

As COO, Michelle will provide leadership and support in the development and implementation of organizational goals, strategic action plans and budget activities in the delivery of programs and services to Farm Bureau members statewide. She will also supervise the operations of MFB affiliates, the Michigan Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Association (MACMA) and Great Lakes Ag Labor Services (GLALS).

Bednarski said Reynaert's unique skill set as a results-driven leader with a forward-thinking approach focused on organizational performance and dynamic growth was evident throughout her professional career.

"She has demonstrated an impressive track record of leadership success in building strong teams, managing operations, and executing record-breaking organizational outcomes," Bednarski said. "All of those are essential attributes to ensure the state's largest general farm organization remains relevant to our members and Michigan agriculture."

Outside work, Reynaert is an active member of several community and professional organizations in the Lansing area, including serving as the current membership chair of the Lansing Rotary Club and past president of the group's foundation board.

She is also a member of Athena WIN, where she previously served as the chair of executive connections and on the board, and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Reynaert holds a bachelor's degree in advertising and public relations from Michigan State University and a master's of administration from Central Michigan University.

As the board went through its selection process for the role, MFB Public Policy Division Director Matt Smego served as the interim administrator.
