DelBene Delivers $960,000+ for Bellevue Police Body Camera Program

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) presented the City of Bellevue with a $963,000 ceremonial check to support the Bellevue Police Department's new body-worn camera program. DelBene secured the investment in the FY24 federal funding law.

The project will equip Bellevue police officers with body-worn cameras, a vital tool for boosting transparency and trust with the public. This technology will improve patrol efficiency, streamline incident investigations, and enhance crime prevention efforts. It will also ensure safer, clearer encounters between officers and residents, reinforcing community confidence in local law enforcement.

"This federal funding is a step forward in improving community safety and police accountability," said DelBene. "By providing Bellevue police officers with body-worn cameras, we are ensuring transparency and building trust between law enforcement and residents. This investment is key to creating safer streets and more effective policing in our community."

"Bellevue now has a body-worn camera program that fosters transparency, enhances accountability, and builds stronger community relations with residents," said Bellevue Mayor Lynne Robinson. "This important investment helps provide police officers and new recruits the comprehensive tools and training they need to best serve Bellevue's unique and diverse neighborhoods, ensuring our police department's partnership with the community remains strong and the city continues to be a safe place to live, work, and visit."

DelBene secured over $18 million for 15 community projects across Washington's 1st Congressional District in the FY24 federal funding package. Projects came directly from non-profit, city, county, Tribal, and state entities, and all funding secured was done in collaboration with project sponsors.
