Ranking Member Courtney Applauds $1.28B Navy Contracts for Electric Boat

NORWICH, CT - Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the U.S. House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, issued the following statement after the U.S. Navy awarded Electric Boat a pair of contracts valued at a total of $1.28B to ensure the health and security of the submarine supplier base and to procure components needed for boats in Block VI of the Virginia class submarine program. Funding was authorized by the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act, which Courtney championed as Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.

"These contracts, authorized by the U.S. House Seapower Subcommittee, ensure that suppliers across the country have the funding needed to meet the Congress' and Navy's aggressive demand for submarine construction by providing additional components for boats in the construction pipeline. This work also ensures that long-lead materials for the next generation Block VI submarines in the Virginia class program will be delivered on time when construction begins. Continued investments into suppliers for purchase orders is a clear commitment to meet the goal of improving the health and stability of the nationwide industrial base reflecting the intent of Congress.
