President Meloni’s telephone conversation with Chancellor Scholz

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation this afternoon with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz.
The two Heads of Government discussed the main issues on the bilateral and international agenda, starting with Ukraine.

At the European level, they focused in particular on migration issues.

Chancellor Scholz outlined the reasons behind Germany's recent decision to reintroduce border controls with neighbouring Member States and the further initiatives Germany has introduced to counter irregular arrivals. The two leaders agreed to maintain close coordination on this matter, also ahead of the next European Council meetings, with the aim of consolidating the link between the internal and external dimension of EU migration policy, in particular by strengthening policies regarding partnerships with migrants' countries of origin and of transit, returns, the fight against human traffickers and legal migration.
