City proposing fee adjustments to invest in our community

The City of San Marcos is proposing a comprehsive update to development impact fees, administrative fees, and inclusionary housing in-lieu fees, which have not been updated since the early 2000s. The fee adjustment will help the City of San Marcos remain competitive and maintain high-quality community resources for residents and businesses to enjoy in our community.

Development impact and inclusionary housing in-lieu fees are largely paid by developers. While residents are not responsible for these fees, they will benefit from the fee adjustment because the fees fund public facilities and improvements including:

  • Transportation facilities
  • Parks, recreation and trail facilities
  • Fire and EMS facilities
  • Advanced planning
  • Habitat conservation
  • Storm drainage facilities
  • Affordable housing

Administrative fees are largely paid by developers and only affect residents if they are seeking a permit to build or rebuild a home. Administrative fees support the cost of services in key areas including:

  • Building permit and inspection
  • Fire permitting and inspection
  • Planning entitlement and permitting
  • Engineering permitting and inspection

The City invites developers and the public to join a virtual workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 4:30-6 p.m., that will provide more information about the fee adjustment. Click here to join the workshop.
