City Downgrades Fire Ban to Fire Restriction

Effective Monday, July 29, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., the City of Grande Prairie Fire Department has downgraded the current Fire Ban to a Fire Restriction due to recent precipitation, while still recognizing the high community fire risk.

During this period, stringent fire-related restrictions remain in place. For a detailed list of approved and prohibited activities, devices, and appliances, residents are advised to check the new Fire Hazard Index table on the City of Grande Prairie Fire Department Page: cityofgp.com/GPFD.

No Permits Issued:

• Open burning fires (not contained within a fire pit) are prohibited.

Permitted with Caution:

• Small, supervised fires in fire pits with spark arrestors on private and residential lands only (campfires on public lands are still not permitted).

Also Permitted:

• BBQs and smokers using solid fuels (wood chips, pellets, charcoal briquettes).
• Propane, natural gas, or electrically powered cooking, heating, and lighting appliances.
• Open flame oil devices (turkey deep fryers, tiki torches).
• Indoor wood fires.

As always, caution should be exercised with any fire.

Residents are encouraged to check Alberta Fire Bans to see if a fire ban or restriction is in place in the area they plan to visit. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
